Not sure if this issue is on or has been resolved yet, but here goes. If you're getting this error using Windows 8.1, and IE 11 and you are trying to use the update feature and you get this....

Server Execution Failed
Below is what I did and it fixed it so far.
Method 1: I suggest you set the Windows update related service as automatic and check if it helps.
Verify the Windows Update Server is set correctly by:
1. Press Windows Key + R Key.
2. In the RUN Box, type "services.msc" without the quotes and hit on Enter Key.
3. Search for Windows Update and right click on it.
4. Click on Properties.
5. Set the status as Automatic and click on Start.
6. Then search for "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" and right click on it.
7. Click on Properties.
8. Then set the status as "Automatic"
6. Click on Start.
