Hi,
I've been looking into a potential problem for a while now, I've noticed it since the 2004/20H2 Update I think.
Basically, when I access music folders consisting of MP3's on my external drive (Western Digital 4TB USB 3.0) in the 'details view' sometimes the folders will access the files right away and other times it will be rather slow. I'm speaking about the MP3 information that is displayed in the detail view columns, sometimes it's fast and displays the information about the music tracks and other time each row will take some time to populate that information. Each folder is basically 10-12 tracks on average.
Here are two screenshots to show what I mean:
It seems to be random when it's fast or when it's slow when I navigate to different music folders, for example if I navigate through five folders (each containing a different album by a band) they can display fast but by the fifth folder I look at it will populate the information in the detailed columns slowly.
I have tried several things to try and solve the issue, from disabling all my start-up apps, un-installing the few video codecs I use, un-installing media programs, SFC/DCIM scans (no errors), memory tests (no errors), HDD scans (no errors), Optimising my drives, swapping USB ports, swapping USB cables etc nothing seem to resolve the issue.
I have noticed the same sort of behaviour when browsing music media folders on my main C drive and again sometimes it's fast to load detail view and other times it takes time.
It's almost like I have a process running in the background that runs randomly that slows down the population of the details view columns. All other functions of my computer are really fast.
Here are my Specs:
Win 10 Home 64-bit – Version 20H2 (OS Build 19042.746)
Intel Core i7-8700 K 3.7GHz
Asus Prime B360-Plus Motherboard
GeForce RTX 2080Ti Gaming OC GPU
Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB DDR4
WD Green 250GB Solid State Drive (C/OS)
WD Blue 500GB Solid State Drive (Gaming Drive)
I also tested plugging in my external HDD into my Win 10 Laptop (Update 2004/20H2 NOT installed) and noticed browsing my music media folders fast and hardly slows down at all in detail view.
Can someone just confirm if this actually an issue or just how Windows operates now with the latest updates?
