Windows 10 AirPods audio issue with microphone usage

Problem: Whenever I use an application [e.g. videogames] that allows microphone use, I try to use my AirPods as an input device [microphone]; however, once I do, it mutes all sound both in the application and on my PC until it's microphone isn't being used.I have two "devices" associated with my AirPods in the Windows Sound Settings menu: "Headphones (AirPods Stereo)," and "Headset (AirPods Hands-Free AG Audio)".Headphones is my output device.
