My new Windows 11 laptop was delivered last week, and I encountered a strange problem today. I was trying to type a German u-umlaut (ü) in Notepad, and nothing happened. After trying a few of the obvious things (like shrinking and enlarging the window) without success, I exited all of my programs and restarted. This worked - - once. I opened Notepad again, typed ALT + 0252, and got the "ü" as desired. I typed ALT + 0252 again, and no result. I tried exiting and reopening Notepad, and again this worked exactly once before I could not do it again. The same is true if I start a new Notepad
