Windows 10 Asked to look for an app in microsoft store when trying to sign into OneDrive

My photos have an X on them and so I searched how to access them and learned I need to login to OneDrive to unpause syncing. When I press Sign in, it tells me I need to download an app in Microsoft App store to open it. Is this normal? And if I need to download an app, what is the app?
