Windows 10 PC.

Intel i7-3770K CPU, ASUS Z77 MB, 16GB RAM, Intel 82579V Gigabit Network Adapter.

Motorola NVG589 device (modem/router/gateway), AT&T Uverse 50mb down 6mb up, stable and fully configured on both IPv4 and IPv6.

Using TCPOptimizer app I have adjusted settings perfectly for my MTU/MSS over IPv4 at 1500 MTU. When I try to adjust the MTU over my IPv6 to MTU 1280 however, my AT&T Motorola device keeps sending configuration data back to the Windows 10 machine and the IPv6 MTU goes back to 1472 MTU, which fragments over the Internet. Fragmenting IPv6 packets are dropped from most websites I visit, thus making it useless to utilize.

I am a fairly advanced user, so please do not bother with cut/paste replies in the hope I will mark your response as an answer. Unless you actually know what is going on here and can provide a sure solution, just pass on an attempt to answer. Thank you in advance!

I have attempted all the standard methods of setting the IPv6 MTU both in Powershell and thru Elevated CMD prompt.

I have tried the following countless times, only to have the settings reset by the Motorola device back to IPv6 MTU of 1472.

netsh interface ipv6 set subinterface "11" mtu=1280 store=persistent
netsh int ipv6 set subinterface "Ethernet" mtu=1280 store=persistent
netsh interface ipv6 set interface 11 routerdiscovery=disabled (<that stops the Gateway from sending MTU data to my Network adapter but it also breaks the whole IPv6 Internet for me as I can no longer reach any websites once that is set. Have to revert that command to "store=enabled" to get it working again.

I set my IPv6 using one of the first two PS commands above, and I get this:

netsh interface ipv6 show subinterface "Ethernet"

MTU MediaSenseState Bytes In Bytes Out Interface
------ --------------- --------- --------- -------------
1280 1 47040213 9752237 Ethernet

Then a few seconds later, if I check the same MTU again, it has been reverted to this:

netsh interface ipv6 show subinterface "Ethernet"

MTU MediaSenseState Bytes In Bytes Out Interface
------ --------------- --------- --------- -------------
1472 1 46928149 9736780 Ethernet

Below is some of my system config, I use Google DNS for both IPv4 and IPv6:

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> ipconfig /all

*** HERE IS MY QUESTION ***

Q1) Is it possible to stop the Motorola NVG589 device from sending configuration data related to IPv6 back to my computer?

Q2) Is it possible to block the information coming from the Motorola device at the Windows level to prevent the data being sent from reaching my Intel 82579V Network Adapter?

Q3) Is there anything I can do in order to set and keep my IPv6 MTU at 1280?
