Windows 10 BSOD appearing after changing network from public to private

I recently updated the Windows OS on a laptop from 1909 to 20H2. I was having problems communicating with my desktop and noticed that the private network was erroneously set to public. I changed the setting to private and the communication problem was resolved, but immediately began getting repeated BSOD screens. I changed the network back to public, but the problem persists. The only way to stop the BSOD's from happening is to go off network. It has been more than 10 days since the OS update so reverting to the previous version is not available. Can anyone suggest a way to resolve the problem
