Windows 10 C drive is full. I cannot access my photos or move them to a external hard drive (windows explorer crashes)

My C drive appears full. I have an external hard drive I'd like to move my photos to. I unlinked OneDrive but I'm unable to move anything. Windows explorer crashes every time. Now, I've lost many icons that that had appeared pinned along the bottom. The photos themselves no longer appear in thumbnails but blank squares.I really need to access these.Please advise
