Windows 10 Can you get Windows 10 and a Windows 7 laptop onto the same WiFi network?

I have a laptop running Windows 7 and my brother gave me his old laptop running Windows 10. I need to get them onto the same WiFi network to transfer the files from the 7 to the 10. According to my internet provider, the Windows 7 cannot connect to 5G and the Windows 10 will connect to the 5G automatically. The Windows 10 does not even show the 2G network in the available network list and the Windows 7 lists both, but will not let me sign into the 5G. So I cannot get them onto the same network. This is crazy. How can I get them onto the same network?
