I have a situation where there are files located nine folders deep on a network share. The full path including the filename runs around 190-200 characters. I am trying to copy certain files to another location via batch script COPY command and it cannot find the files. So I tried pasting the folder path into file explorer. It also failed to find the folder. So I went up a few folder levels and tried again which succeeded. I then browsed back down to the originally specified folder without issue, and found the file I was looking was present. So I copied the path from the file explorer and pasted it next to the path in my copy command. They match exactly. Copying the path from the browsed to file explorer into another file explorer window, also fails.
In talking with other IT staff, I learned there is a another share name to the same folders, so I tried that share, and it worked. It was late, so I did not execute the copy, but now today I tried the previously working share path and it does not work today.
I tried mapping a folder four or five levels down to a drive to see if the command length was the issue, but that had no effect.
I know there no access permissions issue as I can browse to the data and copy it.
I am working over a VPN located in PA.
The server is in WA, and I am located in UT.
Pinging that server yields about 155ms
Any ideas?
