Windows 11 Cannot open files (word, PDF) that I have saved in Explorer (Windows 11)

For some reason, I no longer can open any saved file (word, PDF) from Explorer. I also cannot view any of my saved photos.I did recently apply the recommended update for Windows 11 (I am on a surface pro 8)Can someone advise a fix please?
