Windows 11 Cannot pause or stop microsoft update

I have new windows 11 laptop . Its time to go home . I go to turn off the machine and it says "UPDATE 5min" .I DONT HAVE 5 MINUTES !!! I cant reschedule and when I go and try to pause the unwanted updates its greyed out .In the past I would pull the battery and just force the thing to shut off . These new machines dont have removable batteries .I dont have 5 minutes !!!!!!!!! Who is the brainstorm who dreamed up the forced updates ?WE OWN THE COMPUTERS ......MICROSOFT DOES NOT OWN THEM !!
