Windows 11 Can't change sign in from local account to Microsoft account on laptop

I cannot change Windows sign in from local account to Microsoft account.From Account Settings I select, "Sign in with Microsoft account instead", I enter my Microsoft email & PW, I get Authenticator notification and I approve.I get the "Sign into this computer using Microsoft Account" dialog box and I enter my "Current Windows password" (I know it's correct because if I use an incorrect password, it tells me the PW is wrong). Then I get an "Oops, something went wrong". What's going on and how do I actually get my local account changed to my Microsoft account???
