Windows 11 Can't install Windows 11 on new drive

Purchased a new samsung 970 EVO nvme SSD and installed it into my PC and confirmed it shows up in BIOS. Have also gone to disk management to initialize and format the new drive. Downloaded the Windows 11 Home media creation tool and ran through the wizard to get the Windows 11 installer on an external USB flash drive. When I boot into the flash drive to install windows, I skip the activation key step because I purchased my license a year ago online and don't recall having an activation key. I was hoping to activate Windows 11 with my microsoft account, but when I go to install it, I get a mess
