Windows 10 Can’t pick up old hard drive in new laptop

I have pulled a hard-drive out of an old laptop that was running slow and was basically useless, I have a cable to plug into my new laptop that I want to connect the old hard drive too so I can the documents off. But when I plug the old drive into the new laptop it doesn’t pick it up
