Hello, I am in bit of a pickle On the third of this month we had a MASSIVE, and I mean MASSIVE power outage that took out power to our entire neighbor hood from 6:30-7:00 PM to 1:50 AM.
I go to turn my computer back on, and it turns on but it's not showing up on the display!
Our modem that controls our Wifi was also dead, so I had to wait until the 7th for the new one to come in. We had no internet for days.
When I finally got internet I asked around and was told its the Power Supply. Bought one, waiting for it to come in. Put it in. Nothing happened! Same thing.
I have no idea what to do now. I have tried all the troubleshooting tips I can find. The only thing I can think of is the mother board is fried. I want to try to power-reset the motherboard, does anyone know how I can do that?
Honestly I am at my wits end this is the only computer I have for work(I am a freelance artist) so I've been out of work and money since the 3rd of this month. Even outside of work I haven't been able to do any art I wanted to do.
I have had absolutely terrible and confusing experiences with tech and computer repair places and I don't know what to do.
The only person I trust, my PC repair man, cannot help me for a number of reasons. I refuse to take it to him.
He claims to have had Covid and recovered but he is still sick. So he is either lying about having even recovered or is sick again. I have crippling Asthma and am constantly getting sick. I am not immune compromised but even before Covid hit America literally every time I left the house I returned with a cold.
I won't risk going anywhere near him. He is at work in his shop. He will not wear a mask. His employees do but he won't. He sanitizes everything but I am not risking going into a small closed building with someone with Covid with no mask who is sick and COUGHS CONSTANTLY.
I may be a very stupid individual but I am not that stupid.
He hired NEW TECHS. TEENS. The female tech admitted she is "still learning". ALL the bad reviews on his google reviews is about how whenever he hires new techs he gives the electronics to them which they promptly break. I keep repeatedly asking if he is willing to do it for me HIMSELF but he alternates between claiming he will and dodging answering. The tech I got a hold of claims "he'd put it in a box with a label for insert-PC-Man to work on" specifically.... then promptly tells me "I'll take care of it myself."
Yea no. I am not being some teens guinea pig. The new tech claims he wants to "power reset the motherboard."
I asked him what this does. He claims the mother board controls the Java Scripts.:/ Among other things. I do not think it does. Feel free to correct me.
He is backed up anyways. I'd never see my PC for months.
I don't know what to do anymore. This month has been terrible, I have been out of work. I am broke. I don't have a computer save for a **** laptop I can't use because it barely runs and I'm broke. I don't trust any computer techs with my computer from bad experiences and then now this. I don't know what to do. I have to take it to someone but I am terrified they will damage it beyond repair.
Please help if you had advice or at least how to find a good PC tech.
