Good Morning…I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 in September 2019. After many issues, I had to send it in due to a bad hard drive (worked with Dell Support to determine that) and after being without my laptop for 3 weeks, it was returned and seemed to work great. So in January 2020, it started acting weird again. I cannot access the start menu (or any items within the start menu), the search bar, Microsoft Edge…basically any program that came pre-installed, I do not have access to. Thank goodness I did have Google Chrome, which is what I always use. Also, while using the computer, every few seconds that little circle things pops up and keeps going around like it’s trying to load or do something, when then locks up what I was currently doing Anyway, in dealing with Dell support (Dell – Cares, yea…right) they ran through a whole series of tests with me and found nothing wrong in the hardware and that I would have to call another phone number for support…which I would have to PAY for. Now at this point in time, this thing is barely 6 months old, already been in the shop once (gone for 3 weeks) to replace a faulty hard drive, and therefore re-install all of the Microsoft software and they are telling me I have to have it fixed??? That is unacceptable on a new computer. I’ve tried writing the company itself and all they do is pass me off to some sort of tech support (remember…Dell-Cares???) who then tells me to call another number to pay to have it fixed.
So that is the background. I am not a computer expert (I’m from the PHD school…press here dummy) but I have tried to take out all of the January and February 2020 updates but when I restart the computer, it puts them all back in. I’ve told it to hold off, or don’t download and install updates for a certain time frame, but it does so anyway. I have been told to re-set the BIOS but where I was told to go to do that, there is not an option there for that. That’s about all I know what to do other than wiping the computer completely (which would then be the 3nd time to re-install everything) and see (?) if that helps.
It is windows 10 and I’m looking for anyone who might have an idea on what I can do (with details…) to fix this issue so I can once again have a functioning computer. Any help would be appreciated.
I hope I don’t have to give in and use this as a boat anchor, because then I’d have to buy a boat too.
Thank you.
