Windows 10 Desktop folder doesn't open in File Explorer

When I try to open the Desktop folder in File Explorer, it tries to open Desktop and then freezes. All I get is an open File Explorer that is blank and a little blue circle that keeps cycling.Any ideas why this happens . . . and, (most importantly) how to fix it?Thanks!
