Windows 11 DVD drive disappears when trying to burn

Windows 11 keeps deleting my external DVD drive. I used the drive to install many games and other software with no issues. But in the last month or so (after a Windows update) the drive randomly stops working and it doesn't even show up in Device Manager or Windows Explorer. After that happens, it takes like 10 minutes to reboot my PC! If I unplug the drive from the USB port, the PC reboots normally. I've tried the registry edits listed in other fixes. I had no Upper or Lower Filters entries. I added the Controller0 entry as well. Neither solved the problem. I even used a different DVD
