Windows 11 External digital recorder not recognised windows 11

I have just purchased a new Dell laptop with Windows 11. The USB ports read memory sticks fine but when I connect my digital voice recorder it does not even register. It worked fine on my last laptop with Windows 10.Have tried adding device etc but nothing detected.My mobile phone is instantly detected when I plug that into the USB port.Please can anyone help - I use the digital recorder for my work and have important files on it I need to retrieve.
