Windows 10 f8 button for muting and unmuting microphone not working.

Essentially, the f8 button (used to mute) on my laptop (HP ProBook 450 GB Notebook PC) has remained toggled, and will not turn off. I've tried pressing it in combination with the fn button (which has never been required to turn it off or on, but I still figured it would at least be worth a try). The only way I can seem to unmute it is to call someone on Whatsapp, as the mute button on Whatsapp somehow untoggles it. PLEASE help
