I am using Windows 10 on a Dell laptop. Yesterday, the fingerprint reader on my laptop stopped working, forcing me to sign in with my password. I tried disabling and re-enabling the fingerprint option, but it didn't help. I went online and found something that said I need to download this "Your Phone Companion" app and restart my laptop--it also said to go to my Registry Editor and add something to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System.
I did that, but when I put my finger on the scanner now, it says my PIN is required to sign in, so I still have to enter my password. So I went back to my sign-in options and noticed that the Windows Hello Face option was unavailable; it said "We couldn't find a camera compatible with Windows Hello Face."
A lot of things I've found online tell me to type "gpedit.msc" into my Run window, which doesn't work.
Can anyone tell me what I should do so I can use my fingerprint scanner again?
