Windows 11 First time back up Surface Pro on external HDD - how to very successful backup

I wanted to backup all data from Surface Pro to an external HDD. I used Control Panel > System and Security > Backup and Restore (Windows 7) after it started--the task took a few hours and notified me that 100% task was successfully completed. How do I know that it was truly completely done and how do I verify by checking some sample file sizes or conents? I know all files (per my backup setting) form Users were backed up but how do I know about all photos and files not under Users directory? ThanksChandra
