Windows 7 hi i am running windows 7 home on a toshibo sattelite laptop. windows wont update and lots of things dont work, please help me

Hi i am running windows 7 home on a older toshiba sattelite laptop and for some reason windows will not run in windows anytime update and will not recieve updates and i cannot get alot of apps to work. I understand that windows 7 is a dinosour and no longer supported but my question is how do i upgrade and can i do it simply and for free
