Windows 10 How can I import photos directly from SD card to computer on Wdws 10? It keeps on saying can't find device

I have connected SD memory card directly via usb to computer and then opened Photos - import but nothing happens, "something went wrong, try again" Once again Wdws 10 has complicated the process which took seconds to import automatically open in photo albums in Wdws 7
