I was having trouble pairing a Samsung phone and a Windows 10 computer.
The process wanted a PIN to be used but there was never a chance to enter the PIN.
The pairing process would just error out.
Searching for help I found an MS Community posting from 2013
"How do I add a Bluetooth device that requires a PIN to be entered from the PC?"
which seemed to be the same if not the identical root problem.
Unfortunately, even after years of discussion that never got a satisfactory answer.
That thread is no locked so info additional info can't be added there.
I did some experiments and found a solution to my particular problem.
This approach may be of help to others that never got a solution from 2013 to 2018 for the other question.
Go to Windows Settings from the start or notifications area
Go into Devices: Bluetooth, ...
Scroll down to the bottom of the dialog
Unselect
Show notifications to connect using Swift Pair
After unselecting "Swift Pair"
I was able to achieve Bluetooth pairing on the first try.
I didn't actually have to enter the PIN.
The phone and the laptop both showed the same 6 digit pin,
so they had exchanged it automatically.
The pairing is now complete.
