Hi,

After downgrading Win10 Pro to vs1703 from vs 1709, I can no longer get the original product key to store it offsite in case I have to do the rebuild again.

How do I get that key?

Background:

1. Had a liscensed Win7 setup, upgraded by MS Pro to Win10 Pro, worked pefectly.

2. All updates worked correctly until vs 1709 was installed. Long story short, I had to do a custom reinstall of Win10 Pro up to 1703 and then lock out updates. 14hrs of thedowngrade, plus 15hrs of reinstalling everything outside Win10, and we're ready to start work again. BUT ..

3.

When you press WinKey + X to bring up a window, Command Prompt & Command Prompt Admin are longer listed as options, so entering "wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey" is no longer possible.

When you press WinKey + X to bring up a window, powershell & powershell Admin are listed as options, but entering "(Get-WmiObject -query ‘select * from SoftwareLicensingService’).OA3xOriginalProductKey" is possible, but it only returns the string "OA3xOriginalProductKey", NOT the actual Original Product Key. Which, though pretty, doesn't actually produce a result

When you open a powershell window, and then enter %windir%\System32 to find and run cmd.exe, withour without Admin privilages, you get the error message:

: The module '%windir%' could not be loaded. For more information, run 'Import-Module %windir%'.

+ %windir%\System32

+ CategoryInfo : ObjectNotFound: (%windir%

When you use Cortana to search for the file "cmd" or "Windows 10 Product Key" it suggests several exterior websites, all of which don't provide a working example of how Win10 operates today, not a few months ago.

Of course, the above methods used to work and were known to work, but not today.

Question: Can anyone suggest a process/short-cut/whatever that is known to work today, to extract and displays the Windows 10 Product Key on a PC standing in front of you? Assume Admin rights are available if needed.

I appreciate your taking the time to read this, and hopefully, educate me.
