Windows 11 How to address Brightness control file corruption

Hello, I am having reoccurring issues with my laptop. It is an ASUS Vivobook where the brightness control files become corrupted and I am unable to change the screen brightness. Normally I have either the physical option of using the Control button plus the Brightness +/- or to use the software slider in order to change it. My computer froze yesterday and since then I have been unable to change the brightness. This is not the first occurrence as it has been an ongoing issue over the last year or so.
