I am trying to find a way to change the default size of the preview pane in Windows Explorer on Windows 7.

There is another thread on this, but replies have been disabled on that thread.

The 2 solutions mentioned in that thread didn't work for me.

One solution that was mentioned was: change the size of the Preview Pane to the way you want, then go to Tools > Folder Options > View, and then click "Apply to Folders". Then click OK. That didn't work. When I closed and re-opened Windows Explorer after that, the Preview Pane was not the size I saved it as.

The other solution mentioned was getting a program called ShellFolderFix. I got that program from here: ShellFolderFix . I read that you're supposed to run ShellFolderFix, open Windows Explorer, change the preview pane to the size you want, then right-click the ShellFolderFix icon in the taskbar, then click "Save Workspace". There are 2 problems with this.

1) When I run ShellFolderFix (from the Start menu), the program is running, the window is there, I can change all sorts of options in ShellFolderFix, but the icon for ShellFolderFix does NOT appear in the taskbar at all.

2) Even if I do go to the Start Menu, go to ShellFolderFix, click "pin to taskbar", then run ShellFolderFix, then open Windows Explorer, then change the size of the preview pane, then right-click the ShellFolderFix icon in the taskbar, my only 2 options are "Run ShellFolderFix" (even though it's already running), and "Unpin this program from taskbar". There is no "Save Workspace" option. I even tried rebooting the computer and trying all this again but nothing changed.

So, why is this happening? What is wrong with this program? Is there a solution that will actually work?
