Windows 10 How to change screen resolution settings when greyed out?

This same question is on another thread with the same title; however, I wanted to post what worked for me in case someone else runs into it. I run into the issue of the resolution settings under display settings being greyed out intermittently. Normally it is fine, so it is nothing to do with the driver etc., but rather Windows loses track of the monitor when switching between monitors. Clicking on detect fixes the issue. Display Settings are accessible via start->settings or by right clicking in an empty area of the desktop and choosing "Display Settings".
