I must have done something wrong because it doesn't appear anybody else on the planet is having this issue.
I have had a yahoo email address associated with my Microsoft account since I was beta testing Windows 7. (So a few years ago. I created the Microsoft account for that explicit purpose.)
That Yahoo account was recently hacked. I had 2 factor turned on and everything, still no idea what happened. And I can't fully regain control of it.
I decided to abandon it, and move my accounts to a new email address that is not yahoo. This includes going through every tutorial I can find to change my Microsoft account however, it appears to only change the email address I type in to log in but hasn't changed the email address all my notifications go to to include requests to reset the password.
I can't find any reference to my old email address in my account settings anymore, yet, when I was trying to log into a new computer today, it kept saying my password was wrong. (I know it was correct.) I hit reset password and it wanted to send my reset to my yahoo email. I went ahead and did it because I had no other choice.
Heck, even the email sent to me said, "Please use the following security code for the Microsoft account mynewemailaddress@***.com."
Please help. I can't regain control of my Microsoft account until I can change the email address.
