Windows 11 How to fix my laptop never leaving the _____ is about to project screen when using it as a second monitor?

Recently I have been using my laptop as a second monitor to my desktop for when I'm at home and have access to my desktop. I have been using the wireless display app to achieve this, and most of the time my desktop has no issues seeing and connecting to my laptop, but the laptop never changes screens and just stays on the "______ is about to project" message. I have already tried removing it as a device and reconnecting numerous times, but I don't know where to go from there.
