Windows 11 How to get Microsoft Defender Antivirus offline scan working.

I want to check my Windows 11 Pro system (21H2 22000.1219) for hidden virus infection(s).When in [Settings > Privacy & Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options] I select [Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan)] and click the [Scan now] button, nothing happens.How can I fix this?Direct help or links to instructions are very welcome.Thanks in advance.
