Hello, my PC was fast as lightening and now is showing signs of getting bogged down.
I am using Windows 7 Pro with all required updates. PC is home built (December 2014). PC details below my sig.
Recently I've had strange behavior with IE and Firefox where a page's content is replaced be a random ad and further use of the site is impossible. The rotating activity indicator just rotated and the status bar showed endless ads loading.
I found an article on Microsoft Malware Protection Center about the subject. A paragraph there looked like this:
Use the following free Microsoft software to detect and remove this threat:
You should also run a full scan. A full scan might find other, hidden malware.
Clicking on Microsoft Security Scanner brings up a page whose activity indicator turns forever, never loading the content. I downloaded Microsoft Safety Scanner on another PC (Andrei) and ran it on this PC (Ivan). No malware found.
I ran full scans with Malwarebytes, AVG, and MSE. No positives.
This malware, or others like it cleverly cloak themselves to avoid detection and removal. What's the best approach for me to take to identify and remove the critter?
Thanks - Dave
