Windows 10 I want to do a fresh install on a new SSD. My old HDD is failing and I cannot create an image. Best way to do this?

I recently purchased a new 2 TB SSD to put in a new PC I am building. As it happens, due to money, I won't be able to build the new one soon, so I want to put this SSD in my current PC, and have it be the boot drive and sole storage drive. My plan was to clean up my current HDD and update it as best possible, then make an image to put on an external 2 TB HDD I currently use, then install the new SSD then copy the image to it, make that the boot drive, then chunk my old HDD altogether.Problem now is, I get CRC errors at the exact same time, about 15 minutes into the image.
