Windows 11 I’m fixing (D:) and my ETA is 498:57:04 why is that ?

My external hard drive became corrupted and now I’m trying to repair it but I’m sitting at stage 5 eta 499 hours or 20 days and I can’t stop it if I restart my laptop it restarts the whole process what do I do
