Windows 10 Is there any significance in the difference between a symbolic link (MKLINK /D) and a shortcut (File Explorer >New >Shortcut)?

OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Pro Version 10.0.19044 Build 19044 I'm referring to links to folders.When I drop a file onto either, the same thing appears to happen - the file is created in the target folder.Should I be concerned that there is a difference in the two link types?I have been researching the difference between the symbolic link and the shortcut.
