Windows 11 Issues with windows update and staring actions on win11

Every since Windows 11, version 21H2: KB5027223 (OS Build 22000.2057) and Windows 11, version 22H2: KB5027231 (OS Build 22621.1848) I've been unable to update my OS and get the "Something didn't go as planned" error message when I do attempt to install an update. There's also been issues with defender being unresponsive, which I've attempted to fix by using this guide. Not sure the two are related. my current version is Windows 11 10.0.22621 build 22621, winver is 22H2 the PC is an OMEN by HP 40L GT21-0000i.
