Windows 10 Laptop screen greys out from time to time, apps can open normally but nothing on desktop and taskbar

This had been happening from quite a while now. My laptop (currently windows 10) sometimes goes to a grey screen after I open it again from sleep mode. I can toggle between my software that are already opened, but I cannot open new software, as there is no way to access them (Search bar disappears, desktop turns completely grey, taskbar is also completely grey). I can save files properly. I cannot open task manager as right clicking the taskbar doesn't do anything. I need to restart my laptop after this, and everything is normal again. I cannot force use any function keys or short cuts to open
