It just happened again, this time in my luggage, unplugged and on airplane mode. When I arrived at the hotel I took it out of the bag, it was burning hot and the battery was drained. I can't rely on my laptop any more if this can't be fixed.
It is a DELL XPS 15 9560 with Windows 10 Pro. I've had it for about two years and never had problems until a couple of weeks ago when this started happening after a Windows Update. The pattern is always the same, it wakes up from sleep and the fans start getting very loud. The only way to recover it from this state is to hold the power button down for a few seconds and switch it off completely.
I've searched forums tried everything I could find. Here is a summary:
- Device Manager > Network adapters > Power Management > Uncheck allow wake
- Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices > Power Management > Uncheck allow wake
- Task Scheduler > Microsoft > Windows > UpdateOrchestrator > Reboot > Disabled
- cmd 'powercfg -lastwake' > Wake History Count - 0
- cmd 'powercfg -devicequery wake_armed' > NONE
Windows is up to date. DELL drivers are up to date.
What else could it be? How can stop it from doing that?
