I see that this question was asked in the past, but the answer was not helpful to me and the thread was locked so I am trying again.
I have a Windows 10 laptop. It connects perfectly fine to my home wifi network, so I feel safe assuming that it has no wifi problem. Almost every time I am away from home, however, I try connecting to an "open" wifi network that is supposed to automatically open a sign-in page (to which I have the password). I AM able to connect to the network, but I can't open any web pages because the login page hasn't opened.
Of course I tried googling the problem when I was at home and connected, and tried all the tips I could find. Here's what didn't work so far, so don't bother suggesting it:
- Turning off and restarting Wifi
- Turning off and restarting computer
- Turning off firewall
- Turning off pop-up blocker (which is silly advice, these things are always page redirects not popups)
- Clearing cookies etc
- Making Edge the default app for http/https
- Making Chrome the default app for http/https
- Opening a Chrome incognito window and trying to get a website
- Typing in address bar 1.1.1.1 or the other number combinations suggested on other troubleshooting sites
- Asking network admin for help (most of the time not available, but the few times I was able to ask someone all they could tell me was that nobody else seemed to have a problem)
What's next?! And why am I having these problems with a fairly new, otherwise functional, fully up-to-date computer? This is VERY frustrating and has resulted in a whole lot of wasted time!
