Hi,
After so many days spent trying to make Modern Standby working on Windows 10. I need to admit that it seems to be an issue from the operating system itself.
According all information from MSDN websites, modern standby in Windows 10 is an extended feature of connected standby introduced in Windows 8.
The advantage is to get the same behavior as a smartphone in sleep mode, meaning:
I have Nothing from those things!!! And lot of energy drained from the battery when in sleep!!
I'm running a Surface Pro 3 device.
The sleep modes available on the device are:
(it is in French but clear enough to understand that the system supports Modern Standby: Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) Network Connected)
So I investigated more and more... and did a Trace using WPA.
Most of the time, the system is in Low Power State. The peaks are due to Wifi hardware and Mail/Calendar apps activities.
So it means that Windows is checking mails during the sleep mode.
-->But no Notifications, no sound, nothings but 12% battery gone in 9h sleep!!!
For music. the same story.
According MSDN, it is possible to listen music in sleep mode:
In my side, using the groove app, with a MP3 128kbs/s, the music play in sleep mode.
But I can not adjust the volume using the buttons, and the system is not at all in lower power:
This page Troubleshoot Surface sound and audio accessories did not help at all.
The device is up to date with the latest release of Windows 10 (1511), all the drivers are the Surface Pro 3 optimized drivers from Microsoft.
I really would like to know why Windows 10 is not working as it should be. More when we are "forced" to update the operating system from Windows 8.
My question is:
Is Modern Standby really working??
Thanks in advance for any clear answers.
J.
