I am trying to run a very old MS DOS program on Win 10 Pro/32 (1909). I know it works on Win 10/32 because other IT people in the industry have it running.
What happens is that the program screen flashes up, then holds for a second or two then crashes. The background stays on the screen and a whole bunch of writing is displayed.
DOS/4GW Professional error (GPF), bunch of lines, then at the bottom:
Memory allocation error
Cannot load Command, system halted
No more prompt or anything, the window is dead, dead, dead. The only thing that I can do is close it.
Some of the things I tried
disable UAC
installed NTVDM (that's automatic anyways)
disabled firewall
I set the environment variables in Autoexec.nt and Configsys.nt
set to run as administrator
checked box for Legacy console
Please, please, please, don't give me advice about turning off security features and all the other warnings about running an old app etc. Right now I am running experiments on a test machine and I have to get this DOS program running.
Thank you.
