I have a Samsung Q530 laptop I hardly use; I hadn't turned it on in months. I notice some strange behavior when I ran it yesterday and today in preparation of installing Windows 10. Opening a file or a program, it would often freeze. Even uninstalling a program through the control panel froze. I tried using System Restore and the program window text is all blank, and the buttons are blank.

Anyway, I tried downloading Win10 but the installation failed, "0xC1900101 - 0x20017 The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation" and all the fixes I see involve a lot of troubleshooting and uninstalling drivers and stuff. I don't want to bother with troubleshooting when doing stuff like uninstalling a program in the control panel freezes my computer.

There's nothing on the computer I can't reinstall, so I want to reformat the whole partition* and start over with 10, but I don't know how to do that. Where can I find step by step instructions?

*I made a smaller D:\ partition because the user manual advised me to, but I never use it and I'll try and install Linux there eventually.
