Windows 11 New Win11 computer does not respond to power settings - will sleep only with the sleep button

I have a new Win11 computer that does not respond to power settings in regard to sleep or display off. I can change the settings but nothing happens. It will sleep with the sleep button and remain that way until I wake the computer with the mouse. I have searched here and online for a fix and have tried all kinds of suggestions and have run the power troubleshooter, but have had no luck. It would seem that this should be easy to get straightened out? Thanks!
