This week I’m in Barcelona, meeting with partners at Mobile World Congress, the world’s largest mobile trade show. Our more personal computing vision stretches far beyond any one device type, extending mobility of the experience to small screens, big screens, and devices with no screens at all – with universal apps that span. It’s exciting to welcome new devices to the Windows 10 family from ALCATEL, HP, Huawei, Trinity, Lenovo, Panasonic and VAIO.
With new phones, 2- in-1s, and notebooks, we’re delighted to see the ecosystem continuing to embrace Windows 10. Our commitment to reinvent device categories remains strong through features like Continuum, Cortana, and Windows Hello. Our partners are embracing these technologies in innovative ways, delivering the most productive and secure experiences across a wide variety of devices.
The new devices we’re seeing at Mobile World Congress build on the strong momentum we’re seeing for Windows 10 – across the enterprise, with customers like the US Department of Defense, who will upgrade four million devices to Windows 10 in the next year, to consumers, who can enjoy all new universal apps from partners like Hulu, NASCAR, Dropbox, NPR One, and TripAdvisor.
Here’s a closer look at some of the new device showcased at Mobile World Congress this week:
HP Elite x3 – HP’s new Elite x3 is an innovative new Windows 10 mobile device. With a unique new docking station, the Elite x3 brings Continuum to life in new ways, seamlessly transitioning between a phone, notebook or desktop. The Elite x3 also utilizes Windows Hello biometrics to unlock the device with enterprise-grade security – adding an extra layer of protection for enterprise customers. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor provides a powerful chipset for fast performance. The HP Elite x3 will be available globally this summer.
VAIO Phone Biz – VAIO’s new Windows 10 phone combines beauty and durability, with its machined aluminum casing. The SIM-free device is designed to operate seamlessly on international networks, making it ideal for business travel. It also comes with Continuum, enabling a phone to work like a PC when docked with a mouse and keyboard.
ALCATEL introduced two devices. The ALCATEL Fierce XL – The Fierce XL is a great value-priced Windows 10 mobile device offering Cortana, Microsoft Edge and Office Mobile applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.
And the ALCATEL Plus 10 – ALCATEL’s new LTE connected 2-in-1 offers a 4G LTE keyboard, which can serve as a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 15 devices. The 10-inch Windows 10 device comes with both front and rear facing cameras and features multiple ports including standard USB, micro USB and micro HDMI.
Trinity Nuans NEO – Trinity’s new 5 inch Windows 10 mobile phone features stylish interchangeable two-tone backplates and a 13 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front facing camera.
Lumia 650 – Last week we began sales of the Lumia 650—the thinnest smartphone ever from Microsoft —joining the Lumia 950 and 950XL. The Lumia 650 offers a premium design and metal frame, with the maximum everyday productivity you expect from Windows— at an affordable price. It features the latest Microsoft Office apps, built-in Skype integration, Cortana, and built-in security and encryption to help keep personal and professional data safe.
Huawei MateBook – Huawei’s new 2-in-1 Windows 10 device is a mobile productivity tool, seamlessly integrating mobility, high efficiency, work and entertainment. The MateBook offers a large HD screen with a very small bezel compared to other tablets and a detachable keyboard/cover that acts as a stand for the laptop. MateBook uses Windows Hello to unlock the device with a single touch on the fingerprint reader, and includes Microsoft Edge and Cortana. The MateBook will be available in Asia, Europe and America in the coming months.
Lenovo YOGA 510 and 710 – The compact Lenovo YOGA 510 and 710 convertible Windows 10 laptops are powerful and portable, designed for work or play. With high performance and extended battery life, these devices are perfect for mobile professionals.
Samsung Galaxy TabPro S – Samsung’s 12 inch Windows 10 2-in-1, is a beautiful, ultra thin, detachable 2-in-1 – optimized for entertainment and productivity. Thinner and lighter than the iPad Pro with an Intel Core processor, this device includes active pen support and offers 10 hours of battery life – even when running videos in full-screen. At Mobile World Congress, LTE support was announced for the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S. Available this spring, the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S with Windows 10 will be a great device for consumers and organizations.
Panasonic Toughpad FZ-F1 – This fully-rugged Windows 10 handheld device offers mobile workers in the logistics, retail, and utility workforce the power, security and connectivity they need to get work done in any environment. This device is perfect for work in harsh environments, or for people that aren’t able to hold onto their phones in the workplace, while doing other tasks.
Panasonic Toughbook CF-20 – The world’s first fully rugged detachable laptop is extremely durable, but lightweight at only 3.9 pounds. It has a built-in handle that also acts as a built in kick-stand for on-the-job flexibility. It also features a sunlight-viewable display for outdoor use.
Getac RX10 – This rugged Windows 10 tablet, designed for the healthcare industry, has a variety of features that make this tablet useful for healthcare practitioners. The touchscreen is glove-sensitive, so doctors don’t need to take their gloves on and off to use the tablet, but is also resilient and can withstand heavy use. It has a hot-swappable battery design that allows batteries to be changed without the device shutting off.
Nick Parker, the leader of our OEM relationships, created a cool Sway highlighting these devices.
Our ongoing commitment to our customers continues. From the November update for PCs, tablets, and Xbox One, to ongoing updates to our mobile customers to new builds for our Windows Insiders, we are committed to continuous innovation and delivering the secure experience our customers expect. We are also committed to helping create all new opportunities for our customers and developers across the entire Internet of Things, as our recent Open Connectivity Foundation support illustrated.
Ultimately, we continue to want the world to love Windows. And we want everyone to experience the best Windows experience – Windows 10. We’ll keep working hard for you and look forward to sharing more on our vision at Build on March 31.
