Hello all,
I have a Dell Inspiron 3847 desktop. The computer came with Windows 8.1 64 bit Home edition OS. I later downloaded Windows 10 to the computer. I always powered down the computer through the start menu. The computer no longer boots to Windows. There were no known prior issues. The screen just shows "Dell" and does nothing else. I have tried pressing F2 and F12 at startup and the computer is unresponsive. I tried switching the USB port for the keyboard, same result. There are no beebs or error codes during startup. I checked the back of the tower and the power supply has a green LED.
I called Dell tech support and they suggested if I wanted to try and recover or reformat the hard drive myself to use a Windows 8.1 bootable stick/thumb drive since the computer had originally came with Windows 8.1 OS. The Dell tech went on to explain that I could later download Windows 10 without a product code. Another third party website forum suggested to use a Windows 10 bootable stick/thumb drive to try to boot to Windows. Now I'm not sure what to believe.
Since this is the Microsoft website, I thought I would post the problem here for your input. What version bootable drive would you use?
