Windows 7 Numpad keys on the right side of keyboard are not working on laptop

HelloI have a sony vaio laptop with dedicated numpad on the right side of keyboard. From yesterday the numpad keys are not working. I have disabled mouse keys and have also used the on screen keyboard to enable the number keys. A strange thing is happening. When I am pressing the Numlock on, some of the letters are getting typed as numbers such as i is getting typed as 6,etc. But the numpad keys are not working even then. Earlier when numlock was on the letters were not typing numbers. I am very worried. Please provide me with a solution.
