Windows 10 Password reset process. Microsoft sends a 6 digit numeric code but then demands entry of a seven digit code and reset process fails. What do we do?

My daughter is trying to reset her Microsoft password. The reset process successfully sent a 6 digit numeric code, but when inputting that to verify her identity it is demanding a seven digit code. What should we do? The process is now saying we've requested too many codes and 'try again tomorrow'. All the codes we received (either by text or by email were 6 digit codes.The reset attempts have been done on both a Win10 machine and Edge browser and a Mac using it's native browser. Same result.
