Windows 10 PC freezes when accessing mapped one drive

Running Windows 10 PRO. Mapped one drive to a network drive on my PC (e.g., Z)Mapping works. I then go into file explorer and click on the Z drive and go into one of the subfolders. When I click on a DOC or PDF to open it, the computer freezes up and have to power off computer.I have tried un-mapping and re-mapping, rebooting multiple times and get same result.This has been working fine for several weeks and problem only started yesterday.Have plenty of storage available, so it's not a storage issueWould be grateful for suggestions.
